About Alison Smith Starr
Alison has been teaching yoga asana since 2008. She has seen the practice work wonders with a wide array of students and clients. From 18 to 87. from cirque-du-soliel-back-bendy-types to help-me-tie-my-own-shoes-stiff. Whatever condition you’re in, Alison promises that yoga has something for you.
As a teacher, Alison is known for her playful fire, inquisitive nature, and technical expertise. She has training far outside the realm of “yoga poses” and yet everything orients to the eternal goal of getting connected and coherent in body, mind, and spirit.
Alison was initially certified in Anusara Yoga and spent many years in mentorship with Noah Maze. She has practiced Ashtanga, SATYA, and Shadow Yoga. She has been deep down the rabbit holes of the Yoga Tradition, including mythology, philosophy, Jyotisha and classical texts.
In the last decade, Alison has leaned into learning from bodyworkers and movement methodologies like Rolfing, Anatomy Trains, Feldenkrais and Somatics. She has studied Polyvagal Theory and Attachment Theory.
Alison has an insatiable hunger for understanding human being. Practicing and studying with her will be a journey, a process of discovery, and an inner adventure. Let’s get growing.
